The Aegis, Vol. 3, Issue # 3 (March 16, 2009)
As we come to the end of the first quarter of 2009, the SPSP has several new initiatives to announce. We are pleased that your support has allowed us to undertake these new projects and look forward to your continuing support. This month, we address the climate in the Payment Card Industry. The current climate is one in which most are recognizing that simply complying with the PCI DSS is not sufficient to adequately protect all personal information in the payment system.

The main themes of the October Aegis were education and reducing the scope of compliance. The Aegis, Vol. 2, Issue # 8 (August 25, 2008)
In the latest issue of The Aegis, the articles are focused on the almost complacent attitude of some in the industry, who are content to rely on compliance for risk management and webinars for education. The issue focuses on the dangers of relying on these tools to mitigate risk of data compromise. In addition, the newsletter introduces The Aegenis Group's new Vice President of Business Development, John Matejka. May's subject primarily revolved around the use of new technologies and their impact on data security and compliance. Mobile payments and virtualization were among the new technologies discussed. The issue also featured an interesting discussion on where to cast the blame in the event of a data breach - can a company blame their Qualified Security Assessor?

This issue of The Aegis offered a preview of the announcements that The Aegenis Group made at the ETA Annual Meeting and Expo. Among them were the debut of the Society of Payment Security Professionals, Aegenis eLearning solutions, the introduction of the Certified Payment-Card Industry Security Manager, and The Aegenis Group PodCasts.

The subject of wireless security is one that provides special challenges. In this issue, The Aegenis Group offers a link to their Frequently Asked Questions on wireless security. Aegenis worked with a group of industry recognized experts on the subject to develop this document. The second issue of 2008 focused on the concept of risk. Risk is a key component of both regulatory compliance and information security. Understanding the components of risk can help companies devise effective methods and processes for mitigating risk. This issue of The Aegenis also featured a profile of IntelliVid, the leading provider of video intelligence software for the retail space.

Welcome to 2008! The Aegis rings in the new year with a discussion of new laws that are scheduled to take effect and a new way of framing the discussion on compliance. Additionally, The Aegenis Group announced a new team member, Shelley Henson Johnson, who will be leading the company's education and training initiatives. The Aegis also tackles the controversial issue of scanning as security.
